Pennsylvania Residents can Donate their State Income Tax Refund to Breast and Cervical Cancer Research
EPHRATA, Pa., Jan. 17 /PRNewswire/ — Pennsylvania residents will once again have the option to donate all or part of their state income tax refund to breast and cervical cancer research through the Breast and Cervical Cancer Research Act. By checking line 35 on tax form PA 40, individuals can opt to join thousands of Pennsylvania taxpayers who have already contributed over $1.7 million for Pennsylvania-based cancer research.
In 1997, the Pennsylvania Breast Cancer Coalition worked with the state legislature to enact the Income Tax Check-Off program, which has since become the most popular refund donation option in Pennsylvania. All of the money raised through the initiative goes directly to fund breast and cervical cancer research conducted by Pennsylvania researchers.
PBCC President & Founder, Pat Halpin-Murphy, said, “We began the Income Tax Check-Off knowing that it would provide funds for vital, life-saving research. What we didn’t know was just how generously the people of Pennsylvania would give of their refunds to fight breast and cervical cancer. The incredible success of this simple and effective way to raise funds for research reinforces our commitment to finding a cure now … so our daughters won’t have to.”
The PA Cancer Control, Prevention, and Research Advisory Board’s Income Tax Check-Off Committee recommends how the funds should be distributed to researchers. The Committee is chaired by Pat Halpin-Murphy.
The Pennsylvania Breast Cancer Coalition, founded in 1993, is a non-profit organization and the only statewide grassroots organization that speaks to and for breast cancer survivors. This year, more than 12,000 Pennsylvania women will be diagnosed with breast cancer. More than 2,300 will lose their lives to the disease. The PBCC’s mission is to help find a cure for breast cancer and to improve the quality of breast cancer education, research and outreach in the state.
