Vitamin B-12
The B vitamins consist of a large number of substances that are involved in the metabolism of all living cells. Acting as coenzymes, they work together with proteins in the various enzyme systems of our body.
The functions of the B vitamins are closely synergistic and because of these interrelationships, an insufficient intake of one or more of them can cause deficiencies in the others by hampering their utilization. B vitamins are water-soluble and are not stored in the body. They must be replaced daily and any excess excreted.
Vitamin B-12 (cobalamin) is the only vitamin containing cobalt, a trace mineral. It is essential for the normal functioning ofall body cells, especially those of the bone marrow, gastrointestinal tract and nervous system. It is also necessary for the formation of red blood cells.
