The Power of ProFibe
A study of more than 200 patients has shown ProFibe lowers LDL (bad) cholesterol between 25% and 30% in just four weeks. Glucose tolerance in diabetics improved by an average of 40 mg/dl. When ProFibe was used conjuctively with cholesterol lowering prescription medication in patients suffering from chronically high cholesterol (300-400 mg/dl), cholesterol dropped to near normal (200 mg/dl or less) in 15 days. This is the first conjunctive study ever done. It proved water soluble fibers channel differently than prescription medication (ie. Mevacor, Lopid, Lovastatin, etc.). 20 Years in the Making.
A few years ago a researcher at the University of Florida got a lot of publicity when he found that pectin, derived from grapefruit rinds, had a powerful cholesterol lowering effect.Dr. James Cerda continued his research and found some truly amazing results with the swine he used as experimental animals. Swine were used because their cardiovascular system is remarkably similar to humans and swine have been used for decades to predict what dietary influences might mean for us. Most typically, findings in swine have turned out to be similar in human studies.Then Dr. Cerda and his co-researcher Charles Burgin conducted what could eventually be a milestone research project. The research team fed the artery clogged swine a diet supplemented with either grapefruit pectin or cellulose as the placebo. You will recall that cellulose does not have the heart protecting qualities of other fibers. The results were nothing short of amazing!

Cerda Wins National Award for Pectin Research!
After consuming the pectin for 270 days, a 62% regression was noted independent of cholesterol. The swine maintained a 450 mg/dl cholesterol. What was so amazing was the swine continued to consume a 40% fat calorie diet throughout the study! There was not any regression seen in the cellulose (placebo) pigs. This study was so astounding that Dr. Cerda received the Paul Dudley White award in 1992. (Circulation 1994;89; 1247-1253).

ProFibe: The Beginning
Based on the success of his research, Dr. Cerda and his associates developed a fiber supplement called ProFibe . ProFibe is a powder, considered tasteless, which contains guar gum and citrus pectin. These water soluble fibers are compelled to soy protein to enhance palatability and functionality. ProFibe is designed to blend into beverages or mix into prepared foods such as oatmeal, cereal, casseroles, sauces, etc. The tannish powder that has a faint vanilla aroma, contains 5 grams of protein and 5 grams of water soluble fiber (guar gum and citrus pectin) per serving. It is recommended that ProFibe be gradually increased to reach three servings per day.

The Importance of Lipid Profiles!
Many of our newer customers have tried to compare cholesterol data from 6 months ago to cholesterol data taken after being on ProFibe for 30 days or less. The comparison is invalid because of the lapse of time. A tremendous change can occur in 60 days, not to mention 6 months. The best way to ascertain the performance of ProFibe is to take a 12-14 hour fasting cholesterol, take ProFibe for 30-45 days and then take another 12-14 hour fasting cholesterol. Be sure you receive a lipid profile, not just a total cholesterol number which can be affected by other issues. Then you will know how ProFibe performed for you.
